FAQS

  • If you have been feeling stuck, overwhelmed or just in a stage of life where you are wanting to get to know yourself better, therapy can be a supportive place to start. You don’t need to have everything figured out - we can explore that together.

  • Therapy helps by creating the space to understand what is beneath your struggles and learn new ways of engaging with yourself and others. Progress can happen gradually through insight, relief and feeling more at peace. We will create goals together and continue to assess progress.

  • That is completely NORMAL! Most people feel that way at first. We will go at your pace and my job is to help create an atmosphere where you feel supported and safe. There is no right or wrong way to open up!

  • That happens often, and is totally okay. We will work as a team and I will help things move along with thought-provoking, targeted questions that guide us toward what is most meaningful to you. Sometimes the most important work happens in those in-between moments.

  • Never! My approach is grounded in compassion and curiosity, not judgement. Everyone has reasons for why they do what they do and therapy is about understanding, not criticizing.

  • Yes, absolutely! All the emotions are welcome. Feeling deeply often means you are accessing something important.

Concerns and hesitations

  • Therapy works best when you feel safe, understood, and comfortable being yourself. Trust your gut - if something feels right (or not), that is valuable information.

  • Yes! I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can ask questions and get a feel for what working together might be like.

  • It is held over zoom or phone, whichever feels most comfortable for you.

  • You can ask about my approach, what sessions are like or share what’s bringing you in. There is no pressure - it is just a chance to connect.

  • I tend to connect well with people who are open to reflection, gentle humor and exploring their inner world - even if they are a little nervous at first.

  • That is okay to talk about. Your comfort matters most and I will always support you in finding what feels right - even if that means exploring other options. Often, having an open conversation about it can actually be great practice for expressing your needs and feeling more understood - both in therapy and beyond!

Are you the right therapist for me?

  • Sessions are $200 for 50 minutes.

  • I’m an out-of-network provider but can provide superbills for reimbursement. A limited number of sliding-scale spots may be available.

  • Yes, I can provide a monthly superbill you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. You will need to reach out to them for more information.

  • Payments are made by credit card at the time of each session through a secure portal.

  • Before your first session, I’ll send a few short forms to complete - things like contact information, consent and payment details.

Practical info, insurance and costs

  • I specialize in supporting individuals through pregnancy and postpartum transitions, anxiety, identity shifts, and relationship challenges. I also work with college students and young adults navigating stress, burnout and self-worth among other things.

  • I integrate several evidence-based approaches - including psychodynamic therapy, CBT, ACT and emotionally focused therapy - depending on what best fits your needs.

  • It is a mix. Some sessions are more open and reflective and others more structured depending on what is most helpful that day.

  • Sometimes. I may suggest reflections or gentle practices between sessions, but they are always optional.

  • I am warm and engaged, often gentle but honest. I will listen closely while also helping you notice patterns that may be keeping  you stuck.

  • Absolutely - this is your space, and your feedback is always welcome!

  • I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #147765) with training in psychodynamic therapy, ACT, CBT and EFT. I’ve worked in private practice settings as well as community mental health and crisis settings.

  • I have always been drawn to understanding people deeply. My own life experiences showed me how powerful it can be to have a space where you feel seen, accepted and supported.

  • I love watching people reconnect with their strength, self-compassion and sense of peace. Its incredibly meaningful to witness that transformation.

About Justine Gordon

  • We will find a regular time that works for you and confirm through my online scheduling system.

  • Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and consistency. We might change to biweekly sessions as time goes on.

  • Sessions are 50 minutes.

  • We will explore what brings you in, what you hope to get from therapy and what support feels most helpful right now.

  • Only what feels relevant and comfortable to you - we will go at your pace.

  • It varies. Some people come short-term for a specific issue and others stay longer for deeper work.

  • Therapy can bring up big emotions. That’s normal and okay. If you feel unsettled, we can talk through how to care for yourself between sessions.

  • We will regularly reflect together on what feels different - both internally and in your day-to-day life.

  • Yes, you can message me for brief check-ins or scheduling needs. Anything deeper we will process together in our next session or schedule a session sooner.

What to expect in and after sessions

  • Yes, everything you share is private, except in rare cases where I am legally required to act for safety (like if someone is in danger).

  • The main limits involve safety - if there is risk of harm to yourself or others, or suspected child/elder abuse. I will always explain this clearly if it ever comes up.

  • If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest ER. You can also contact 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline anytime for support.
